Dark Sugars Cocoa House
Dark Sugars Cocoa House is a chocolate shop in the Shoreditch district of London. Fatou (Nyanga) Mendy, the founder, has been selling chocolate in London for over 20 years, getting her start at the Spitafields and Borough Markets. While researching cacao at her family’s farm in Ghana and travelling throughout West Africa and South America, Nyanga learned about cocoa cultivation. She established Dark Sugars on Brick Lane in 2013 and a second location in Greenwich in 2021.
My family and I went there for the first time in December 2019 and fell in love with the place. As you walk in, every where you turn, you’re literally surrounded by chocolate. You can’t help but feel like Ghanaian cacao beans have welcomed you home. No doubt the truffles are amazing, but what you really need to try is the hot chocolate…nice, thick chocolate love topped with chocolate shavings that melt with every sip. If you haven’t been there yet, you should definitely put Dark Sugars on your bucket list!
